I faithfully read reviews before buying. This time I took the advice of a family member who owns the larger version of this pot. Since I’m the only coffee drinker in the house I thought this smaller one would work perfect for me. Straight out of the box I was already less than satisfied. The coffee maker is very light weight and feels very cheaply made over all. The lid didn’t fit down properly and had a slight gap when closed. It was almost like it was installed with a slight angle to it because it went off to one side. You must use a 4 cup filter because an 8-12 cup filter will keep it from closing at all. I washed everything and gave it a test run only to find out that the water while steaming hot when it poured out was almost ice cold within a few minutes. The little arm that dispense the water over the grounds was very flimsy and had to be forced in and out of position. I can see that breaking easily. At one point I lifted the lid to see how it worked and was disappointed to see that part of the grounds were untouched while others were floating. If the grounds weren’t smoothed down into place the water wasn’t touching them. The bar dispenser is nice in theory but this machine is so light that I had to use one hand to hold it in place while I pushed the mug in. I had to have a tight hold or the machine would slide away each time. I ended up returning it because it was more work than it was worth. There’s also no way to tell how much coffee is left other than listening for the burner to start sizzling. The 2-hour automatic shut off might be nice but if its empty that whole time that’s going to be a fire hazard. I bought the 12 cup version of this and am so much happier. It’s a sturdy machine unlike this one.

Sent this to Hamilton Beach to see what they say: This is about BrewStation® 6 Cup Coffeemaker
MODEL: 48274. Your web page and the box says 6 cup. A cup is 8 ounces, so to me 6 cups is 48 ounces. But, the most water I was able to put in was 36 ounces, and that caused it to overflow all over the counter. How many ounces do you consider a cup to be? Realistically and safely, I am really only able to get 32 ounces in the reservoir. That would be two 16 ounce cups or 2 2/3 12 ounce cups., or FOUR 8 ounce cups. But no matter what I do, I do not see how this can be a 6 cup coffemaker, unless you think a cup is a little over 5 ounces.

First of all, this coffee maker uses the 4 cup filters, not the 10 cup ones. The box and the instructions do not indicate this. When you close the outer lid, it is designed to push the hot water spigot over the coffee filter. If you use the larger filters, the spigot catches on the edge of the filter and will not wet the coffee grounds.
This coffee maker is not perfect, but it is a good value for a small capacity coffee maker. This unit makes about 32 oz of coffee so it really makes about 3 cups of coffee. It may be the coffee maker for you if the following details are okay with you.
The coffee maker is 6 inches wide and 10 inches deep. When the unit is closed, it is 12 inches tall, but when you open the flip top lid it is 21 inches high. I cannot fill the unit under my cabinets, but I don’t use it under the cabinet – I don’t know of that many coffee makers that have the room to fill under the cabinet. Also, a wide mouth cup (like a soup cup) will not fit into recess where you fill your cup. Also, my travel coffee cup is too tall to fit in the recess. Regular cups work fine, so consider what you drink from.
The filter holder is open on the entire bottom, so coffee does not steep as long as in other makers. I tested how many grounds to use to make a perfect single cup of coffee for me, but you can use an extra filter make the coffee steep a bit longer.
Also, if you like your coffee really hot, this may not be for you. The coffee drips into a plastic container under the filter which will cool the coffee down a bit. When you fill a cup immediately after brewing, the cup further cools the coffee. I am completely happy with the temperature of the coffee because I don’t have to wait for it to cool down to drink. There is a heating plate in the bottom of the holder which will heat the coffee back up if you like yours really hot, but it takes time.
Also, this unit’s design makes it easy to spill water on the counter. The lid also builds up condensation after you brew the coffee. If you flip the lid open, it will drip onto the counter also. This coffee maker has a clock and timer(but it isn’t lit), so I generally clean it out and set up the filter for the following morning after I get home from work. The condensation is gone by then so I don’t experience this issue.
The only other issue I can think of is that you don’t know how much coffee is in the reservoir. I only put enough water to make 1 big cup each morning so it isn’t an issue, but if I have company, you can only see the level by opening the cover and removing the coffee filter holder.
This review sounds negative, but I really like this coffee maker. I use it for a single cup of coffee each morning and I can make about 3 cups when needed. I like not having to deal with a glass container.

This is a great coffee maker. I use to have a fusion and had to buy the coffee online and it was expensive. Now I just get regular coffee at the store. I love how there’s no pot to deal with.
